Patiala, September 22

Members of the Elementary Teachers’ Union staged a protest in front of the Education Department office over their pending demands. Union members alleged that department officials were not paying heed to their demands despite several meetings in the past.

Manoj Ghai, district president of the union, said though the Education Department authorities had promised to release the list of promotions of head teachers several times, they failed to do so even after months.

The union members also urged the government to enhance the grant of uniforms for students to Rs 1,000, issuance of free books to students from deprived families and timely resolution of various other demands.

They said the department had failed to implement the directions of the DPI and their issues had been pending for years due to the casual attitude of the education department officials.

The protesters ended their protest after a meeting with the DEO on the spot of protest and claimed that the DEO had assured them of releasing the list of promotions by September 27 and also address their other demands soon.
