Elderly violates 5-year-old, held

Chandigarh: A 65-year-old man has been held for sexually exploiting a five-year-old girl. The suspect took the victim in his auto from Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, and committed the crime. The victim was later dropped back after which she started crying. She was taken to a hospital after which the victim revealed the incident to her family. The police were informed following which the suspect was arrested. TNS

UT resident held with heroin

Lalru: The Lehli police here on Thursday arrested a person and recovered 50 grams of heroin from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Suraj Chauhan, a resident of Ram Darbar, Chandigarh. The police said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid near the Lelhi ITI intersection on Thursday. The suspect de-boarded a bus and was walking towards the Lehli side carrying a bag. On suspicion, the police party stopped him. During checking, they recovered 50 grams of heroin and arrested him. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect at the Lalru police station. OC

Man robbed of Rs 15K, valuables

Chandigarh: Three unidentified miscreants thrashed a man and robbed him of Rs 15,000, a silver chain and a mobile phone. According to the police, complainant Abdul Raheem, aka Sajju, a resident of Raipur Khurd village, alleged that three unknown persons thrashed him with sticks near a petrol pump in Sector 56 on May 8. They also robbed cash and other valuables from him. The police were informed following which a case under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the IPC was registered against them at the Sector 39 police station. TNS
