Economic disparity violation of human rights, says expert

PATIALA:Dr Sucha Singh Gill, an eminent economist, while delivering a lecture at Bang Taraksheel Bhawan on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, said economic disparity and social coercion are blatant violations of fundamental human rights, enshrined in the UN international documents.

Dr Sucha Singh Gill, an eminent economist, while delivering a lecture at Bang Taraksheel Bhawan on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, said economic disparity and social coercion are blatant violations of fundamental human rights, enshrined in the UN international documents.

He was speaking at a programme organised by the local unit of the Association for Democratic Rights (AFDR) on the topic of “Challenges to human rights in the present scenario”. Dr Gill, while elaborating the historical background of the international human rights movement, cautioned the audience about the weakening of the movement under the brutal attacks of the present day capitalistic regimes world over. He called for a strong broad front of masses to safeguard the political, civil, economic, social and cultural rights of people in this age of global powers, which had joined hands with the modern state and governments in place.

Dr RS Ghumman, president, Patiala unit of the AFDR, emphasised on raising awareness on fundamental human rights, democratic rights, among the masses, particularly youth.

Vidhu Shekhar Bhardwaj said more such programmes would be organised in the coming days.

Dr Kuldip Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, Master Sucha Singh of the BKU (Dakonda) and student activist of various unions also participated in the programme.
