Chandigarh, April 1

Several restaurants, hotels and chains  of multi-national eateries  were  issued a challan of Rs  10,000  as the Chandigarh  Municipal Corporation   started a drive  against littering.

The drive was started a week after the  MC  notified the new  solid  waste management bylaws.  Sources said around 80 challans were issued  today  for various violations. A majority of the challans were issued  to eateries in Sector 22  and 35. Teams were  sent to the  spots  and the challans were issued  after  garbage  was found thrown in the open. Of the total challans, at  least  35  were   issued to hotels  and restaurants  for  littering in the open.

KK Yadav, MC Commissioner, said people had been advised to  use  the swachhta  app to inform it about  littering. — TNS
