Drug racket busted, 3 held

The Special Task Force (STF), Punjab, busted a drug racket with the arrest of three persons and recovery of 100 grams of heroin in Mohali.

The accused have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, alias Pony, a resident of Himachal Pradesh; Sandeep Singh, a resident of Rupnagar, and Balwinder Singh from HP.

The police nabbed the drug peddlers at a naka at the Phase 3/5 light point from a golden colour Hyundai Verna car (DL10CA5563). Drug money worth Rs 75,000 was also recovered from the car’s dashboard.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

The police said the accused were arrested in August when 90 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, but they were later released on bail. The police said Balwinder Singh had multiple cases registered against him in various police stations.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had been trafficking drugs for 6-7 years.

The police said they procured heroin from Delhi and supplied it to their customers in Mohali, Chandigarh, Kharar, Ropar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana and HP.

The police said the accused made several trips to Delhi.

Rajinder Singh Sohal, Captain, STF, Mohali, said the accused procured drugs from Delhi for Rs 1,200 per gram and sold it for Rs 3,000-Rs 3,500 per gram in Punjab.

“We are investigating on breaking the supply chain of traffickers and making more arrests,” he said.

The police officer appealed to people to report suspicious persons to the Special Task Force. The name and identity of informers would be kept secret, the police said.
