Drug addict held with stolen scooter, three LCDs

The local police have arrested a 29-year-old vehicle thief at a naka near Labour Chowk in Sector 41 here on Friday night.

The police said Taranjit Singh, a resident of Sector 40-C, was nabbed with a stolen Activa scooter during checking being conducted in view of the Lok Sabha elections. The number plate affixed on the scooter was found to be fake. The scooter was reportedly stolen from Sector 40 on March 15.

During preliminary investigation, three LCDs stolen from Mohali were also recovered from the accused. He also confessed that he had stolen batteries from Nayagaon-Mullanpur areas to fulfil his drug need.

It is alleged that Taranjit, a resident of Salamatpur village in Kharar tehsil of Mohali district, is a drug addict. He is married and has a daughter. On April 19, 2017, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him at the Mullanpur police station. — TNS
