Diwali fundraiser for the destitute

CHANDIGARH: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University (PU), in collaboration with “Prabh Aasra”, a city-based NGO for homeless and destitute, organised a Diwali fundraiser at Students’ Centre on the PU campus on Monday.

The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University (PU), in collaboration with “Prabh Aasra”, a city-based NGO for homeless and destitute, organised a Diwali fundraiser at Students’ Centre on the PU campus on Monday.

Director, Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration, Navjot Kaur, inaugurated the fundraiser event. She applauded the creative efforts of students of the Centre for Human Rights and Duties for a noble cause, which would brighten the lives of children admitted to the Advanced Paediatric Centre, Chandigarh, and also inmates of the destitute home.

The centre chairperson, Dr Namita Gupta, explained that the handicrafts displayed on the occasion for the purpose of raising funds for children and destitutes include accessories for Diwali such as diyas, wind chimes and candle stands, all made out of waste material.
