Dilpreet in remand for 2 more days

CHANDIGARH: The two-day police custody of gangster Dilpreet Singh, alias Baba, ended on Sunday following which he was taken on two-day remand by the Maloya police to question him in the sarpanch murder case.

The two-day police custody of gangster Dilpreet Singh, alias Baba, ended on Sunday following which he was taken on two-day remand by the Maloya police to question him in the sarpanch murder case. The Duty Magistrate visited the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, and carried out the proceedings.

Dilpreet, who was nabbed by a joint team of Punjab and Chandigarh cops on July 9 following a dramatic chase outside the ISBT Sector 43, had suffered a gunshot injury. He had fired two shots at the cops, following which the police retaliated with two bullets, one of which hit the gangster’s thigh.

After remaining hospitalised for four days at the PGI, Dilpreet was discharged on July 13 and produced before a Judge who sent him to two-day police remand. However, in view of his poor health, he was taken to the GMCH just hours after being discharged from the PGI.

A police official said keeping in view Dilpreet’s poor health, the Duty Magistrate was requested to visit the hospital. Dilpreet was remanded to judicial custody, but the Maloya police simultaneously moved an application for production warrant, following which the gangster was sent to two-day police remand.

The Maloya police will now question Dilpreet in the sarpanch murder case that took place in broad daylight outside a gurdwara in Sector 38 (West) on April 9, 2017.

Dilpreet Singh, Harjinder Singh, alias Akash, and Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda were seen shooting at the sarpanch in a video made by an eyewitness. The accused had then escaped in an i20 car that was driven by the fourth accused.

Still at GMCH-32
