A local court awarded 10-year sentence to a resident of Dhanas for raping a minor.

The court convicted Balwant Singh, a resident of Dhanas, Chandigarh, of raping a minor girl from Zirakpur. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 45,000 on the convict.

A case in this connection was registered at the Zirakpur police station on August 20, 2016.

The victim’s father, a watchman in a school, had alleged that Balwant Singh had allured his minor daughter on the pretext of marrying her. Later, the police had arrested the accused and rescued the girl.
