DGP scraps daily meet to discuss crime in city

CHANDIGARH: The daily meeting to discuss the crime situation in the city, which was started by former DGP TS Luthra, has been discontinued by the new DGP Sanjay Beniwal.

The daily meeting to discuss the crime situation in the city, which was started by former DGP TS Luthra, has been discontinued by the new DGP Sanjay Beniwal.

All SPs, DSPs and inspectors posted in the crime branch and operation cell used to attend the meeting, which was held everyday at 1 pm. The crime graph and the incidents reported in past 24 hours used to be discussed in the meeting and the action taken in that regard was also used to be discussed.

DGP Sanjay Beniwal said the meeting had not been discontinued but its format had been changed. “We are still holding the meeting but in a different format. I will hold it at my level and others should hold it at their own level. I will meeting the SSP,” the DGP added.

A DSP on the condition of anonymity said there was no need to have a daily meeting daily as there was nothing much to discuss everyday. “Moreover, the meeting used to consume a lot of time,” he said. Another officer, who used to attend the meeting, said every day meeting was not required keeping in view the crime rate in the city.
