Dera case: DGP reviews security arrangements

Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora visited Patiala today to review the security arrangements ahead of the verdict in a rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. He held a closed-door meeting with senior officers from the zone and briefed them about steps to be taken to ensure law and order situation on August 25.

After wrapping up his visit to Bathinda, the DGP headed to the police lines where he told the officers to ensure nakas and proper deployment of forces to ensure safety of the common man.

Arora said, “We have skilled 75 companies of paramilitary forces and 11,000 Punjab Armed Police (PAP) jawans and district police to maintain peace in the state. Commandos and reserved battalions have also been deputed in the region.” The DGP also visited Bathinda, Moga, Patiala and Mohali and held meeting with senior officers in these districts, asking them to keep vigil and not to allow any leniency to any anti-social elements.

Eight Executive Magistrates appointed 

Chandigarh: Deputy Commissioner Ajit  Balaji  Joshi  has appointed Executive Magistrates for maintaining  law and order on August 25, the day the verdict in the rape case against Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh will be pronounced. 

 The city has been divided  into three divisions. Eight Executive Magistrates  have been appointed in the  East Division. They are Kriti  Garg, Umashankar Gupta, SK Jain,  Dhain Singh, Amarinder Singh and Suresh Kumar. Those appointed in the South Division include Amit Talwar, Manoj Khatri, Nishu Nee Singhal Naveesn Sharma  and Suresh Kumar, while Capt Karnail Singh, Rakesh Kumar  Popli, KPS Mahi  and Inderpal Singh will 

take care of the Central Division. Rajiv Kumar  Gupta,  Additional  Deputy Magistrate, will be the  overall in charge.
