Dera Bassi, December 6

The Dera Bassi police booked a person on charges of outraging the modesty of a 32-year-old woman living in his neighbourhood here. The suspect has been identified as Dalvir Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Amlala village near Dera Bassi.

The victim, who also resides in the same village, in her complaint to the police had alleged that she was married to Harvinder Singh of Banur around 8 years ago. Due to domestic differences with her husband, the victim had been staying with her parents in Amlala village.

She told the police that she went outside her house to dump garbage nearby. In the meantime, Dalvir Singh, alias Kala, stopped her and asked her to accompany him.

The complainant alleged the suspect touched her inappropriately, following which she raised an alarm. The victim’s parents immediately came outside and the victim narrated the incident to them. The victim, along with her parents, then approached the Dera Bassi police and lodged a complaint against Dalvir Singh here on Wednesday.

Going with the victim’s statement, the police have registered a case against the suspect under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC at the Dera Bassi police station. Further probe is on, said the police. — OC
