To discipline defaulters and recover dues, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is going to launch a massive drive in the town.

As per information available, power bills of Rs 8 crore are pending against around 9,700 consumers, including government departments and private parties, in the Zirakpur circle.

Now, the PSPCL will issue notices to defaulters to clear their dues. In case of default, the department would snap the power connection.

Mounting dues prompted the department to start taking strict action against the defaulters, said sources.

PSPCL sources said special attention would be paid to cases where dues were more than Rs 50,000.

Officials said instructions had been issued to the staff to pursue these cases on a regular basis in order to reduce loss and take quick action in case any consumer defaults on paying the bill.

Preferring anonymity, a PSPCL official said there were many cases where they could not disconnect the electricity connection of the defaulter because of political pressure. Now, they have got orders from the high-ups to recover the outstanding amount from the defaulters and if the dues were not cleared, legal proceedings be initiated against them, the official added.
