DC praises farmers for not burning paddy straw

Appreciating the district farmers for cooperating with the district administration by not burning paddy straw during the current paddy season, Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur said of 489 villages in the district, the incidents of paddy straw burning have been reported from 27 villages only.

There has not been even a single incident of paddy straw burning in 462 villages. The total area on which paddy was cultivated in the district was 82,000 hectares and harvesting has already been completed on approximately 56,000 hectares. The area under paddy straw burning is 10.9 hectares. Therefore the percentage of area affected by paddy straw burning is 0.019 per cent.

As many as 45 custom hiring centres have been set up in the district and 185 individual implements have also been sanctioned. The total amount of subsidy distributed is Rs 3.10 crore.

The Deputy Commissioner said: “The farmers of the district need to be complimented for the high level of awareness and responsibility that they have displayed towards the protection of the environment during the current paddy season. We appeal to them to cooperate with the administration till the end of the season.”
