Mohali, October 16

A day after a 15-day-old baby boy was kidnapped by a woman, the police are clueless about the identity of the kidnapper, who was seen taking away the baby in CCTV footage. However, her face was not visible in it.

Inspector Manphul Singh, SHO of the Balongi police station, said they were scrutinising the footage of some other CCTV cameras installed in the area.

The SHO said the kidnapper seemed to have tracked the family since the birth of the child.

“She had come to the victims’ home eight days ago on the pretext of administering polio drops to the child. She posed as a health worker. It seems she was tracking the family to give shape to her nefarious designs,” said Manphul Singh.

The police also checked the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, where the child was born. “We are working on certain angles to work out the case,” he said. The woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, had kidnapped the baby from Azad Nagar at Balongi here yesterday.
