Mohali, October 19

A murder accused, who opened fire at Veer Singh (55), a witness in a murder case, at Kumbra village yesterday and his accomplice are still absconding.

The police, who have already identified the duo, Manish Parbhakar and Rajwinder Singh Raju, through CCTV footage, believed that they might have come in a blue Skoda car.

“The Skoda car in question was seen in some footage. The vehicle might have been used in the crime. The footage of all CCTVs installed at various points across the town will be scrutinised to get any clue about the vehicle,” said the police.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal said though the police were yet to get any clue about the suspects, raids were on at their possible hideouts.

It is to be noted that Manish is a resident of Dhanaula village in Barnala district, while Rajwinder is a native of Dhuri in Sangrur district.

SSP Chahal said police parties were sent to their residences, which were found locked. “Though the suspects are still at large, they will be in the police net soon,” said SSP Chahal.

Veer Singh received three bullets, two in his thigh and one in the shoulder. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Phase 9 here, where his condition is stated to be stable.

It is to be noted that Veer Singh was an eyewitness in the murder case of Harpreet Singh in October 2015. Manish, a key suspect in the case in question, had allegedly shot dead Harpreet Singh, who was his friend, following a petty issue.

Veer Singh had overpowered Manish on the spot and handed him over to the police. A case in this connection was registered at the Phase 8 police station here. The trial in the case is on in a local court and Manish was released on bail three months ago.
