A three-day classical and contemporary dance festival, organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala, began with a soul-stirring dance drama, ‘Atirathis’, which was based on the Mahabharata, at Tagore Theatre here on Friday.

Sangeeta Sharma, director, sculpted a dance drama spectacle to perfection. Unfortunately, the event witnessed a low footfall.

The hour-long thrilling dance drama brought alive the emotional turbulence and remorse of the divided soul of queen Kunti, the mother of half brothers Karna and Arjuna — the valiant warriors.

The accomplished dancers filled the stage with electrifying mudras.

The artistes inluded Subhashsish Dey, Umesh Bisht, Tushar Yadav and Shikha Rani with Atul Mishra on lights.

Chief guest was kathak guru Dr Shobha Koser.
