A cultural programme was presented by schoolchildren on the eve of Independence Day. The cultural evening was organised in memory of all those who laid down their lives to attain freedom from British rule.

VP Singh Badnore, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, was the chief guest and Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator, was the guest of honour.

The programme started off with Shri Vandana presented by students of Government Girls Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20. A patriotic group song was sung by students of Navodaya Vidhalaya Samiti, Sector 25, and a Gujarati dance was performed by students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37.

A skit depicting the contribution of Jatin Dass was presented by students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, while a qawali was performed by students of DAV Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, and dance of Dadra and Nagar Haveli was performed by students of Government Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra Town.  Vibrant bhangra was presented by students of Saupin’s School, Sector 32.

Speaking on the occasion, Badnore said, “It is the ethical responsibility of citizens of the country to value the contribution of the ones who had laid down their lives for the independence and to preserve this hard-earned freedom, with a surety that the sustained efforts of one and all will lead our country on the path of development.”
