Ludhiana, May 17

A team of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh, led by Prof Ranjit Singh Ghuman, visited the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) Complex, Focal Point, today.

In an interaction, team members took up problems faced by various industries of the city with representatives of the chamber. They will list all problems in the final report, which will be submitted for the formulation of an industrial policy to the Punjab Chief Minister.  The discussion was initiated by Satish Dhanda and SS Bedi, assistant director (retd), MSME, now adviser to the chamber.

During deliberations, it was clearly highlighted by representatives of various units that the lack of comprehensive policy in the state was a serious impediment in way of the industrial development. The governance and trust deficiency was another serious drag on industrial growth.

Industrialist also rued that various departments of the government dealing with industry were creating hindrances rather than acting as facilitators or hand holding. They said litigation pertaining to enhancement of land/plot was unnecessarily consuming time, energy and finances of the industry. They demanded that there should be restructuring of the one time settlement by Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation Limited (PSIEC) once for all.  — TNS
