Crop loss drives farmer to suicide

Gurwinder Singh (30), a farmer and resident of Badochi village near here, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence today. 

He was facing financial difficulties following crop loss due to rain. He is survived by wife Harjeet Kaur and a daughter.

Bhagh Singh, father of the deceased, told the police that Gurwinder Singh had taken a piece of land for cultivation. He had sown paddy, which was destroyed by bad weather. Unable to bear the loss, he committed suicide. 

He had also started working as a truck driver to arrange money. 

Gurwinder was taken to the local Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by doctors. He was cremated this evening after a post-mortem examination.
