Chandigarh, February 17

A local court has rejected the plea of sarpanch murder case accused Manjeet Singh, alias Bobby, to be shifted out of the Chandigarh jail. He had filed an application saying that his life is in danger here and that he should be shifted to a jail anywhere in Punjab. However, the court dismissed the application and sent Singh to judicial custody.

Singh was brought to Chandigarh on production warrant from Hoshiarpur five days ago and was in police remand till today. In April last year, the then sarpanch of a village in Hoshiarpur was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Sector 38. The main accused, Singh had last month surrendered in Hoshiarpur. One attempt-to-murder case and one involving Arms Act are already registered against Singh in Garhdiwala and he had surrendered in the same.

Two other accused arrested by the police have already filed a discharge application in the court. Teerth Singh and Arshdeep Singh claimed in the application that they had been falsely implicated in the case by the police. On the day of the incident, they were in Hoshiarpur and have already submitted a video footage as proof of the same in the court. It will now come up for hearing on March 12.

Deceased Satnam had named Singh and two others in the case before succumbing to his injuries. Later, a video that was made by a woman on her mobile phone was received by the police and it was established that the three assailants who were seen shooting the victim were identified as Dilpreet Singh Baba, Harjinder Singh, alias Akash, and Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda. All dreaded criminals are wanted by the Punjab Police. — TNS
