Five teachers sustained injuries during a protest in front of the Shiksha Sadan in Sector 5 here. Computer teachers and lab assistants have been protesting here for the past 44 days.

The protesters were trying to gherao the Shiksha Sadan, Sector 5. However, the police stopped them from marching ahead. The police used water cannons and mild lathi charge on the protesters.

Later in the evening, the Panchkula Deputy Commissioner called the protesting teachers for a discussion, but no meeting took place.

The protesters demanded a hike in their salaries, as promised by the government. They also demanded salaries during their winter/summer vacation and salary to the women staff on maternity leave. — TNS
