Patiala, July 17

Contractual nurses and ancillary staff of Government Rajindra Hospital, Chest and TB Hospital, and Government Medical College held a protest march seeking salary hike.

The protesting nurses were demanding the release of installment of 33 per cent increment in the salaries. The 33 per cent increase in the salaries was done by the state government in 2015. Firstly, the protestors raised a slogan against the state government. The protesting nurses carried out a march starting from the Outdoor Patient Department to the Principal office at Government Rajindra Hospital.

Sandeep Kaur Barnala, Chairperson, Nurses Association Punjab, said: “We are only demanding that increment should be implemented as soon as possible. The salaries of the contractual nurses are very minimal.”

Patients were at the receiving end as the OPD of Rajindra Hospital remained paralyzed.
