Cong impresses in Fatehgarh Sahib

The Congress performed excellently in the zila parishad (ZP) and panchyat samiti (PS) poll for the first time in Sirhind, Amloh and Chanarthal Kalan, considered stronghold of the SAD (B) in the district.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Badal (B), even failed to open account in Sirhind and also lost Chanarthal Kalan falling in the Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency, where Congress candidates won all seats with a handsome margin.

In Amloh constituency, where the highest polling of 74% was recorded, the Congress won 16 out of the 17 seats in the PS and all the ZP seats for the first time, whereas SAD (B) got only one.

The worst performance of the Congress was in Khamano PS where party won only eight seats and lost six to SAD (B) and one to SAD (Amritsar).

The Congress candidates won 72 out of the 87 seats in the ZP and PS elections, SAD (B) bagged 12, SAD (A) got one, Independent candidates won two and AAP failed to open an account.

Amloh MLA Kaka Randip termed it as the victory of honesty, dedication and good leadership of the Congress.

In Fatehgarh Sahib constituency, the Congress won all the four seats of the ZP unopposed. In Sirhind the Congress won 14 out of the 15 PS seats, an Independent got one seat while SAD (B) and AAP failed to open an account.

In Khera panchyat samiti (PS) the Congress won 12 out of the 15 seats, SAD (B) bagged three and AAP failed to open an account.

Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra termed it as the victory of policies and honesty of Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in the state.

In Bassi Pathana Assembly constituency, the Congress won 12 out of the 15 seats of the PS, SAD (B) got two and an Independent candidate bagged one seat. Congress won all the seats for the ZP in Bassi Pathana.

In Khamao the Congress won only eight seats out of the 15 PS seats, whereas SAD (B) got six and SAD (A) managed to open account by winning Hawara Kalan seat.

Bassi Pathana MLA Gurpreet Singh GP termed it as victory of the people and Capt Amarinder Singh.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon and SSP Alka Meena said no untoward incident was reported during elections. They said activists of the SAD (B) protested without verifying facts. They thanked people for completing election process peacefully.
