Cong gets majority

The Congress scored a landslide victory in Kharar and Majri panchayat samiti (PS), whose elections were held on Wednesday. 

The counting of votes for both the panchayat samitis started at Government Polytechnic College, Khunimajra, at 8 am here today. Out of the total 24 seats in Kharar PS, the Congress won 20, Shiromani Akali Dal bagged two and one Independent candidate was also declared winner.

Earlier, a Congress candidate was  declared unopposed in the Kharar panchayat samiti. Now, the Congress has 21 members in the 25-member panchayat samiti.

Meanwhile, recounting of votes was ordered for Mauli Baidwan zone as per demand of the Congress candidate. The Congress won 12 out of the 16 seats of Majri panchayat samiti (PS). The counting of votes started under the supervision of the District Revenue Officer-cum-Returning Officer for Majri PS, Balwinder Pal Singh.

Similarly, in the zila parishad elections, Manbir Singh won from Mullanpur Garib Dass, Khuswinder Kaur from Ghauran, Jaswinder Kaur from Balongi, Mohan Singh from Manuli and Yadwinder Singh Kang from Khizrababad constituency. All belong to the ruling Congress.

Meanwhile, re-counting of votes was ordered for the Tira zila parishad constituency.
