Complete work on night shelters: Commissioner

KK Yadav, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, today visited the site of night shelters for homeless people at the PGI here.

Accompanied by Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineers and Sub-Divisional Engineers concerned, he directed the officers to complete the work by tomorrow positively.

The Commissioner inspected the site where work has already been started to provide temporary shelters. The Commissioner inspected 3 shelters, which were to be put up last week, and instructed the engineers concerned to complete the rest of the work by tomorrow positively.

He also inspected the facilities provided in night shelters for homeless people.

The Commissioner asked the Chief Engineer to provide proper staff in each tent for the upkeep of record and housekeeping.

All shelters will be waterproof. The shelters will also have proper circulation area for movement, plywood flooring approximate 4” height with wooden batten and proper matting over plywood, camera at entrance for security, lighting arrangement on surrounding and inner side, RO system with disposable glasses, heating arrangements, cushion with bet sheet, quilt and pillow with the provision to replace bed sheet and pillow cover on alternative days.

‘Remove encroachments in front of houses’

The Commissioner also visited Sector 19 where a survey of encroachments on road berms is being conducted by the Engineering Wing as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He instructed the engineers to conduct the survey at the earliest and submit a report for necessary action. The Commissioner also instructed the team to remove encroachments in front of houses.
