Chandigarh, November 21

Having failed to make any significant progress in the case of the 22-year-old’s gang rape on Friday, the Chandigarh Police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information about the accused leading to their arrest.

Though the CCTV footage gave away the face of one of the accused, they have eluded the police, who claim to have checked thousands of auto-rickshaws in and around the city.

The police have stated that they are checking the CCTV footage of other petrol pumps in the city as well to get another glimpse of the accused and his auto-rickshaw. The police have not been able to get any complete picture showing the registration number of the vehicle. Police officials said they had some clues about the other two accused as well and and were hopeful of identifying them soon.

Spot suggests crime was planned

Police investigation of the crime spot suggests that the crime was planned. The accused chose an area inside the forest of Sector 53, which had a grass cover. It is not a regular forest area but a patch of grass inside the forest. The police believe that the accused frequented the area and had it in mind to use it for the crime.

The victim told the police that the accused went straight to the area and it did not seem like they were looking for a place. It confirms the theory that the accused already had the place in mind. Unlike the gang rape incident in December, which took place in a forest area in Sector 29, this one seems to be a case of waiting for a potential victim while already having the intention and place of crime in mind.
