The Zirakpur police on Tuesday claimed to be on the verge of solving the murder mystery of 35-year-old Ajay Jain. Ajay Jain, owner of Jain Mobile Care shop at Baltana, was allegedly shot by three motorbike assailants on the night of April 27 when the victim was on his way back home.

The Zirakpur police claimed that Ajay’s murder was hatched by notorious gangster Amit Kumar, alias Bhura, who is at present lodged in the Patiala jail as an undertrial wanted in a number of criminal cases registered against him.

According to police sources, Bhura was involved in five murder cases, along with 12 attempt-to-murder cases. He was also involved in more than 30 cases of robbery, dacoity, Arms Act and NDPS Act in Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Earlier, the police produced the accused before the Court of Judicial Magistrate (Senior Division). The gangster was brought on production warrant by the Zirakpur police here on Tuesday. To unearth the conspiracy behind the murder, the police had sought eight-day remand of Amit.

Public prosecutor also submitted documents seeking custody of Amit Bhura before the Court of Judicial Magistrate (Senior Division) and based on the documents, the Judicial Magistrate remanded the gangster in the police custody till August 2.

Police officials said they were hopeful of getting some more important information while questioning the gangster after getting his 8-day remand. The police sources said it would lead to various disclosures in the Baltana murder case. Inching closer to wrapping up the case, the police are now focusing on consolidating evidence after some important clues and key eyewitness came forward.
