A school boy had a narrow escape after he was trapped in a parked car that accidentally caught fire outside a school in Sector 60 here on Saturday.

Sources said the incident occurred at 2 pm when Tanvir Singh, a student of Gem Public School in Sector 60, was waiting for his mother while sitting in an Indigo car. He was listening to music when fumes started coming out of the bonnet. He tried to get out of the car but its door got jammed.

On noticing the fire, the driver of a school bus parked nearby rushed to the car with a fire extinguisher and doused the flames. The bus driver and some residents then pulled the boy out to safety.

Jatinder Pal Singh, president, Market Welfare Association, Phase III market, said, “Due to timely intervention of the bus driver and residents, the boy was rescued unhurt. The car possibly caught fire due to a short circuit.”
