Civic body panel finalises garbage collection charges

A committee of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, has finalised the monthly door-to-door garbage collection charges for household and commercial properties. 

Committee member and councillor Ravinder Kaur said houses below 5 marla will have to pay Rs 50. Houses measuring 1 kanal will have to pay Rs 200 while those between 5 and 15 marla will have to pay Rs 100 for the ground floor, Rs 110 for the first floor and Rs 120 for the second floor.

Restaurants, SCOs and SCFs will have a fixed amount of Rs 250. In the commercial category, hotels will pay Rs 2,000. Small vendors will have a fee of Rs 50. Kaur said these prices would be tabled at the MC House meeting on June 30 for approval.

In view of the wet and dry garbage segregation project, the civic body is trying to streamline the system of door-to-door garbage collection. If anyone does not pay the amount to the collectors, it will be reflected in his water bill.
