Chandigarh, February 12

The Municipal Corporation has stopped replacing sewer lines in Sector 47 after residents of the area objected to the work.

Sandeep Bhardwaj, a Congress leader, met Mayor Rajesh Kalia today and demanded an inquiry into the matter. He told the Mayor that the sewer pipes were not required in the area as the existing system was already working properly.

Besides, Bhardwaj requested the Mayor to get the rainwater pipelines cleared as the contractor concerned has placed mud into it by breaking manholes.

Sources said officials of the engineering department of the MC have stopped the work. A department official said the work on the pipelines was started on the demand of some area residents who wanted to shift the sewer lines. — TNS
