A local court on Monday issued a production warrant against Sampant Nehra, a sharpshooter of the Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, in an attempt to murder and Arms Act case and directed the authorities to bring him before it on Tuesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sampant, son of a retired assistant sub-inspector of Chandigarh Police, was nabbed by a Special Task Force of the Haryana Police from Hyderabad on June 6.

Mohinder Singh, SHO at the Dera Bassi police station, said, “We have obtained a production warrant against Sampant Nehra, who is currently lodged Ganganagar jail.”

As per the FIR no. 203, complainant Major Singh, a resident of Chandiala falling under the jurisdiction of the Dera Bassi police station, had alleged that he, along with his father Labh Singh, in Swift bearing registration number (PB-01-A-7605) had gone to meet his friend Kulwant Singh at Ramgarh village on September 7, 2017.

The complainant said when they reached near Fathepur Jattan village, he saw a Ford Endeavour coming from Sheikhpura village side. It stopped in front of their car. Major said thereafter, three armed youths came out and pointed pistol at him. The assailants then fled away taking their Swift after allegedly firing a gunshot at him. Major sustained a bullet injury on his thigh in the incident.

The SHO said the police personnel who had left for Ganganagar on Sunday night were on their way back and would probably reach Dera Bassi by Monday midnight. He said Sampant would be produced in court on Tuesday morning amid tight security.
