Patiala, November 18

Colonisers of illegal colonies in the city have failed to reach the Municipal Corporation for regularisation of colonies despite the notification of a new policy for regularisation of colonies throughout the state in October.

The Ministry of Local Bodies had notified the policy for regularisation of colonies to give an opportunity to colonisers and plot holders who could not apply in response to policies notified earlier.

Officials in the corporation said not a single coloniser had reached the local body for regularisation to date. Meanwhile, they had received applications from plot holders regarding regularisation of their properties.

The Municipal Corporation had prepared a list of 30 colonies under its ambit that were termed illegal. Out of the 30 colonies, the MC had documents of 20 colonies in its possession, while it did not have any information regarding the remaining 10 colonies that were identified later.

The Municipal Corporation has decided to affix a board outside an alleged new illegal colony to ensure that people are not misled in buying property at the location near the bypass road. This was done after the civic body received information that an illegal colony was being constructed near the Bypass Road on a 1.5-acre land.

Officials said they prepared a report regarding the matter, which would be reviewed soon.

Assistant Town Planner Naresh Kumar had said the inspector concerned was directed to conduct an inquiry. An official said: “We will now proceed further by putting up a board outside the locality to bar people from buying any property in the area. We have recovered some documents regarding the matter and the same are being reviewed.”
