City boy shoots his way up in Kuala Lumpur

Achal Pratap Singh Grewal bagged a team gold at the FISU World Shooting Championship-2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Indian team comprising Anmol Jain, Achal Partap and Nishant Sindhu shot a total score of 1725 to finish on top of the podium, ahead of Russia and South Korea.

However, they failed to make it to the top three positions in the individual pistol event. Jain finished sixth after qualifying for the finals with the second highest qualification score of 578. Grewal also qualified for the finals but was the first to be eliminated. Sindhu shot 571 to finish 13th.

Representing Punjabi University, Achal Partap has been pursuing the sport since 2007. In addition to his latest laurel, he won gold at 13th Junior Asian Championship held at Kuwait City in 2015. He has represented India in many international events in the junior category.

Achal Pratap, current junior Asian champion in the 25m standard pistol, has also won a gold medal in an international Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany.

Currently doing MBA from Punjabi University, he said: “I am happy with my performance and thankful to my parents and coach Swarnjit Kaur.”

His mother Kirandeep Kaur said: “He is hard working. With his latest achievement, he has made the city and Punjabi University proud.”
