Chandigarh, April 16

After a gap of two years, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is all set to launch a housing scheme for residents. Over 500 flats of different categories will be constructed in Sector 53 under the scheme. Sources said the agenda for administrative approval for the scheme would come up at a board meeting on Tuesday. The board has already earmarked the land, approximately 8 acres, for the flats, to be constructed with a modern design.

The sources said for the first time, two level basement parkings had been planned in two and three-bedrooms flats while one basement parking would be provided for one-bedroom flats. An officer said the board had already appointed a consultant for seeking environment clearance for the project. He said the scheme was likely to be launched in two months after getting the environment clearance.

This time, the scheme will be launched at a bigger level and will have more houses of different categories in comparison to the scheme launched in April 2016.

Under the scheme, there is a plan to construct 80 EWS flats, 120 one-bedroom flats, 100 two-bedroom flats and 200 three-bedroom flats.

The CHB authorities are expecting a better response for the new scheme than that for the scheme launched in the April 2016 for 200 two-bedroom flats in Sector 51.

Policy for need-based changes on cards

The CHB has started the  process to frame a comprehensive policy for need-based changes. Sources said, the board would also discuss  the  proposal  for forming  a  committee for making recommendations for need-based changes. Besides, the board will  also take up the  issue  of one-time settlement for violations in CHB houses.
