Chandigarh, July 22

A 25-year-old youth was killed while another one was injured when they met with an accident near the Hallo Majra light point while being chased by a PCR vehicle on Sunday night. It is being alleged that their motorcycle was hit by the PCR vehicle after which the motorcycle rider lost control, leading to the accident. Sources said the motorcyclists, who were heading towards Chandigarh, allegedly jumped the red light at the old Airport light point after which the PCR vehicle chased them and tried to stop them. Both motorcycle riders were injured after which they were rushed to the PGI where Ashok Kumar, a resident of Phase II, Ram Darbar, was declared brought dead.

Local residents staged a protest against the police at the accident spot.

Police teams reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police officials claimed that the PCR vehicle was on patrolling when  the youth riding the motorcycle rammed it into the left rear door of the PCR vehicle after which the motorcycle hit a pole and the duo fell. The police claimed that the victims were not wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
