Charges framed against Pehalwan, 2 others

A court on Monday framed charges against GMADA’s former chief engineer Surinderpal Singh, alias Pehalwan, along with two former officials of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) in case of tampering with his (Pehalwan) date of birth in his metric certificate, here. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had registered a case in this connection under Sections 420, 465, 467, 471, 120-B of the IPC and appropriate sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act-1968 here.

In the case, it was alleged that Pehalwan in connivance with the board’s two senior officials had tampered with the date of birth in his metric certificate for getting job in the Punjab Mandi Board.

Pehalwan had reduced his age to four years by tampering in the certificate to be eligible for the post of JE in the board.

According to Vigilance investigations, as per the PSEB gazette, Pehalwan’s date of birth was December 11, 1967, but after tampering his date of birth was mentioned as December 11, 1971.

The next hearing in the case has been slated as May 5. — TNS
