MOHALI:Chandigarh played out a draw against Mohali to win the Punjab Inter-District U-16 Championship for ML Markan Trophy on the basis of first innings lead.

Chandigarh played out a draw against Mohali to win the Punjab Inter-District U-16 Championship for ML Markan Trophy on the basis of first innings lead. Chandigarh claimed a massive lead of 451 runs while Mohali ended up on 165/4 on the last day to lose the match. Resuming at 259/5, Chandigarh posted a total of 307 runs. Overnight unbeaten, Akshit Rana and Raj Angad Bawa opened the innings but their partnership was broken by Harshdeep Singh. Rana was cleaned up for 105 runs including 14 boundaries and a six. Next in, Manv Malik (14) added 29 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before being cleaned up by Prabhjeet Singh. Thereafter, Chandigarh lost Arbab Iqbal (1), Jaskirat Singh Mehra (1) and Arshnoor Singh Pannu (0) in quick succession. Bawa remained unbeaten on 46 runs. For Mohali, Anshul Negi (4/88) was the pick of bowlers while Harshdeep Singh (3/50) and Prabhjeet Singh (3/45) also claimed wickets. Staring at defeat, Mohali started their second innings with Yuvraj (1) and Rishul Shrivastav adding only six runs for the first wicket when Verma was cleaned up by Jaskirat Singh Mehra. Prabhjeet Singh joined Shrivastav and the duo raised the total to 22 runs before Mehra struck again to claim Shrivastav (12). Prabhjeet and Anshul Negi stitched together a 91-run partnership for the third wicket. Suraj Patle broke the partnership by claiming Prabhjeet (51) with the team’s total 113. 

Negi and Akashdeep Singh built a 33-run partnership. Akashdeep (19) was run-out by Patle reducing Mohali to 146/4. Rajinder joined Prabhjeet and the duo ended the day at 165/4 for Mohali. —TNS
