Celebrating Dasehra

This refers to “Country’s tallest effigy draws thousands” (Chandigarh Tribune, October 20). It goes without saying that eracting the 210-foot-tall effigy of Ravana, tallest across the country, can be a unique achievement on the part of the organisers.

This refers to “Country’s tallest effigy draws thousands” (Chandigarh Tribune, October 20). It goes without saying that eracting the 210-foot-tall effigy of Ravana, tallest across the country, can be a unique achievement on the part of the organisers. Thousands of people came here to witness the tallest effigy go up in flames at Shalimar Ground in Sector 5. There was a huge traffic jam for about three hours after the function. The police had a tough time controlling the traffic. What about the resultant waste of petrol and diesel in the process apart from the vehicular pollution caused? This function could have been held on a smaller scale so as to avoid all sorts of hardships.

Need public parking

The authorities concerned must construct a public park in the area around Highland Marg or Nabha village on the Bhabat road. Increasing haphazard urbanisation, dirty roads and construction of temporary shanties on both sides of the road is having a detrimental effect on the environment and health of residents. A dumping ground in the middle of societies in the area is a cause of great concern. Absence of open spaces has deprived residents of societies in this area of leading a healthy life. The elderly are far worse as they have no place to walk or sit peacefully in the lap of nature. A public park on the lines of what has constructed in Mohali is the need of the hour.

Guru K Singh, Mohali

Is a civic issue bothering you? Are you agitated over the lack of concern? Is there something heartening that you feel needs to be highlighted? Or a picture which in your opinion ought to be seen by many, and not just you?
