The Special CBI Court today dismissed the application filed by former Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) RC Meena in a graft case.

In the application, Meena had stated that the court had no jurisdiction since the Section 7 of the old Prevention of Corruption Act was no longer in existence as it had been replaced with the new Act. The application was filed by Meena a few months ago.

Besides Meena, Surinder Kumar, Sub-Inspector, EOW, Sanjay Dahuja, co-founder of Berkeley Automobiles, Industrial Area, and Aman Grover, owner of KLG Hotel, were arrested by the CBI on August 13, 2015, on graft charge. According to the CBI, all four were allegedly putting pressure on a family in Mohali and had demanded a bribe of Rs 95 lakh from it for not arresting the members in a criminal case.

All four were allegedly caught taking Rs 40 lakh as the first instalment of the bribe money.

Nearly 40 applications had been moved by the accused in the court and thus charges have not been framed and trial is being delayed.

The court will now hear arguments on framing of charges on June 1.
