Case transferred to crime branch

A day after gangster Bhupesh Rana was shot dead by rival Bhupi Rana gang members in Barwala near Panchkula, the police transferred the investigation of this case to the crime branch.

Confirming the development, Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh said the case would now be investigated by the crime branch, Sector 26. Cops of the Chandimandir police station, where the case was registered, will assist the crime branch in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Bhupesh Rana’s post-mortem was conducted at the General Hospital, Sector 6, here.

Sources said there were nine bullet wounds on Bhupesh’s body. A majority of the bullets had pierced through his body. A bullet, which got stuck in skull, was recovered by doctors, who conducted post-mortem.

The sources said there were multiple fractures on the body due to bullet injuries.

Besides, the Panchkula police rounded up some youths in connection with Bhupesh Rana’s murder. Different teams of the crime branch conducted raids at Ambala, Mohali and Kurukshetra to arrest the killers, but to no avail.

On Monday, Bhupesh Rana, along with his friends, was going in his car to perform religious rites in the memory of his ancestors when the assailants travelling in a Maruti Swift car fired bullets at him near the Shiv temple at Barwala. Bhupesh died on the spot.

Bhupesh, who was a key member of the Monu Rana gang, was out on bail in the murder case of a Zirakpur resident Mushtak, who was a key member of the Bhupi Rana gang.

On the complaint by Bhupesh Rana’s family, the police had registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC against Bhupinder Singh, alias Bhupi Rana, a resident of Handesra in Mohali, who is the kingpin of the rival gang, besides his gang members Gaurav Rana, a resident of Barwala, Sahil Rana and Rinku, both residents of Ambala, and Ashok, alias Shonky.
