Chandigarh, December 17

In a case of sheer negligence, the traffic staff of the UT police today towed away a vehicle from a no-parking zone in Sector 34 even as a 12-year-old child was sleeping inside.

Sources said the child’s parents, who are residents of Mohali, had gone to purchase  vegetables when the traffic staff towed away the vehicle.

When the parents found their car missing, they complained to the police control room that their car with their child inside had been stolen.

The sources said the child was carrying a mobile phone but he was not picking up calls made by his parents as he was sleeping.

In the meantime, the local police came to know that the vehicle had been towed away for wrong parking. Later on, the child picked up the call and informed his parents that he was safe. His parents then rushed to the Traffic Lines in Sector 29 to get their child.

Shashank Anand, Senior Superintendent of Police-Traffic, said departmental action was being taken against the erring Head Constable, Subhash, and Home Guards volunteer Jagseer.

The police officer said the duo had been shifted to the Traffic Lines.
