Car-borne youths assault couple in P’kula

A couple was assaulted by unidentified youths near the Sector 10-11 light point when the couple and their nine-year old son were returning home around 3 am today.

Karandeep Chopra, a resident of Sector 11, received injuries as one of the assailants attacked him with a belt on the head. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. 

Chopra said they had gone to Mohali to meet one of his friends from where they went to another friend’s house around 12.30 am. He said they left Chandigarh around 2.45 am and reached Amartex Chowk when his wife Anu cautioned him that a car, which had boys inside, was being driving rashly and it could hit their vehicle. He asked his wife not to pay attention to them and continued to drive towards his home. 

When they reached near the Sector 10-11 light point, the boys stopped their Wagon R car in front of their car. He said the boys, who were taking beer, starting arguing with them on flimsy issues. He said his wife informed the Police Control Room and the police asked for their location.  

He said he tried to reason with the assailants that his wife and nine-year-old son was with him and they should let him go as it was already late. He said the assailants told him that other members of his family could go home, but they would not allow him to leave as they wanted to teach him a lesson. He said the one of the assailants took out a belt and attacked him on the head. He said after the assailants saw blood oozing out of his head, they fled from the spot along with their vehicle (HR 03V 3272). He said they also took away around Rs 5,000, which fell from his pocket during the scuffle. Chopra’s wife Anu filed a complaint with the Sector 10 police chowki after which the police registered a case against the unidentified assailants.
