Panchkula, October 17
The Panchkula police have written to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to cancel the lease given to the Dera Sacha Sauda for its Naam Charcha Ghar in Sector 2. The police had written to HUDA after recovering sticks from its premises.
Now, HUDA is taking legal opinion on the issue. Estate Officer Jagdeep Dhanda said they had received a letter in this regard. “The letter has now been sent to the department concerned. They are checking if it is possible,” he said.
Commissioner of Police AS Chawla said the land was allotted by HUDA for conducting religious activities. “But, as we recovered some objectionable items from the building, we wrote to HUDA in this regard,” he said.
Nobody was allowed to enter the first floor of the building except the dera chief. Before the dera chief was held guilty of rape, more than 1 lakh followers had reached Panchkula. Initially, all followers had gathered at the naam charcha ghar in Sector 23. The land, measuring 548.50 sq metre, was leased out to the dera on April 11, 2013, for 99 years.
