CA arrested for duping 2 retd Cols, war widow

The police have arrested a fraudster for allegedly duping two retired Colonels and a Kargil war widow.

The accused, Karamjit Kalsi, a resident of Suncity Society, Sector 20, Panchkula, who is a CA, used to file income tax returns of various people.

Col SK Chauhan (retd) and others, in a complaint lodged at the Sector 14 police station, stated that Karamjit Kalsi and his wife Preet Kalsi committed a fraud with a number of people in Panchkula, Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Ropar and Abohar.

In August 2017, Kalsi sought a loan for fulfilling some formalities. Colonel Chauhan gave Rs 3.10 lakh, while his wife gave Rs 40,000 through cheques. In return, Kalsi gave blank cheques to the Chauhan family.

Similarly, Col Anutosh Sharma (retd), a resident of Sector 20, gave Rs 5 lakh to Kalsi. Geeta Gaur, another victim and Kargil war widow, who was also residing in Sector 20, was cheated of around Rs 60,000 in the name of filing IT returns and taxes.

The accused was produced in a Panchkula court and sent to two-day police remand.
