Burglars target three shops in Mohali, decamp with valuables

MOHALI: Some burglars targeted three shops in Phase 3B2 market last night and decamped with 15,000 cash, coins worth Rs 2500, a mobile phone and other stationary items.

Some burglars targeted three shops in Phase 3B2 market last night and decamped with 15,000 cash, coins worth Rs 2500, a mobile phone and other stationary items.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday around 1.30 am here.

The police procured CCTV footage in which they found that two masked miscreants tried to break locks of the shops. After failing to break the locks of the first two shops — Bala Medicos and Virji Medical — they broke into third shop, Bansal Book Depot, where they committed the theft. It took them half-an-hour to commit the crime.

When the burglars were coming out of the shop, a box filled with coins fell on the ground following which a security guard of a nearby ATM came out and raised the alarm, but the burglars managed to flee from the spot.

Aswani Kumar, owner of Bansal Book Depot, said, “Last Thursday also, some burglars tried to open the locks of our shops, but failed. This time, they were successful in breaking the lock and took away a mobile and cash. I was at my home when I came to know about the theft around 2.30 am. On reaching the shop I found the items were scattered on the floor, he said. The police also reached the spot around 2.30 am.

On the statement of the shop owner, the Mataur police have registered a case against unknown miscreants under Sections 380 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code.
