Ambala, April 19

Loktantra Suraksha Party-Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Naresh Saran could not file his nomination papers as the bank account number mentioned on his nomination papers was opened today, whereas as per the guidelines, the bank account must be at least one-day old.

Deputy District Election Officer Captain Shakti Singh said, “As per the nomination papers of the LSP-BSP candidate, the bank account of the candidate was opened on Friday only, while it should have been opened at least one day prior to the filing of the nomination. Though he was told that he can file the papers today as there was no objection in his papers and can submit the second set of papers later, he preferred to file his papers tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Republican Party of India (A) candidate Anil Kumar filed his papers today. The BSP and LSP earlier held a meeting and carried out a roadshow in the city, which led to a huge traffic jam in Ambala City. A huge rush of vehicles and supporters of candidates had resulted in a nightmare for residents and commuters travelling near Jandli flyover, Inco chowk, Aggarsain chowk and Polytechnic chowk. — TNS
