Chandigarh, December 12

Forum of the BSNL Unions and Associations comprising the BSNL Employees’ Union, Sanchar Nigam Executives’ Association, National Federation of Telecom Employees and All-India BSNL Executives Association observed total strike against the formation of subsidiary tower company of BSNL.

The employees staged protest outside the BSNL offices in Sector 17 and Sector 34 today.

HS Dhillon, district secretary of the BSNL Employees’ Union, said the government’s move of handing over operations of mobile towers to private hands would ruin the subscriber base of BSNL.

“So far BSNL is the only company which provides uninterrupted connectivity in far flung areas of the country. Though we have done the leg work, private payers are given preferential treatment. The move of handing over tower facility to the private company will give edge to private players,” said Dhillon. — TNS
