BSF bag top spot at police shooting meet

CHANDIGARH: The Border Security Force (BSF) bagged the overall championship trophy in the 18th All-India Police Shooting Competition, which is a part of the All-India Police Duty Meet that concluded today at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s (ITBP) Basic Training Centre in Bhanu near here.

The Border Security Force (BSF) bagged the overall championship trophy in the 18th All-India Police Shooting Competition, which is a part of the All-India Police Duty Meet that concluded today at the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s (ITBP) Basic Training Centre in Bhanu near here. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was the runners-up.

As many as 843 participants, including 16 women from 34 state police organisations and central armed police forces participated in the six-day competition that included five events of rifle shooting and eight events of pistol and carbine shooting.

The BSF and the CRPF also bagged the top two positions, respectively, in rifle shooting as well as in pistol shooting. The first place in carbine shooting went to the BSF, followed by the ITBP and the National Security Guards. Assam Rifles came third in rifle and pistol categories. The Tamil Nadu Police was adjudged the best among states followed by the Rajasthan Police.

Declaring the meet closed, the Governor of Haryana, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, said safeguarding the national security, both from internal as well as external threats, was of paramount importance. He added that ensuring the national unity and social harmony was of equal importance. He also gave away trophies and awards to the winners. — TNS
