Chandigarh: Punjab State Golf Association will host the 19th PGA Cup from April 10-11 at the Chandigarh Golf Club here. A total of 90 golfers will participate in the competition, the organisers said here on Tuesday. The winner in each category will be decided on gross score. There will also be special prizes for the longest drive and the nearest to the pin competitions, said PGA vice-president GS Lehal. Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi will award the winners on the final day, Lehal added. The last edition of the championship was played at the RCF Kapurthala and was won by hosts’ Jagmohan Singh. TNS

Prabhjot shines for LPS

Mohali: Prabhjot Singh hit a 41 before claiming 3/7 to help hosts Learning Paths School (LPS) register a 117-run win over Strawberry Fields School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, in the inaugural LPS U-13 Cricket Tournament here on Tuesday. Electing to bat, Prabhjot propelled the hosts to 159/5 in 20 overs. Satyam made 23 runs, while Namitveer chipped in with 21 runs. Arjun was the most successful bowler for Strawberry Fields. He picked two wickets. In reply, Strawberry Fields School were bowled out for 42 runs.  In other match of the day, St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, beat Saupin’s School, Sector 32 by five wickets, while Vivek High School, Mohali, registered a 27-run win over Learning Paths School (B-team). Smart Wonder School, Mohali, beat Learning Paths School (A-team) by 38 runs in the last match of the day. TNS
